On Wednesday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m., come see Nunsense at the Omaha Community Playhouse for only $20! Mention the discount in person at the Box Office or via phone at (402) 553-0800 to purchase tickets for $20 each; limit four per person. Tickets are subject to availability and not valid for previously purchased tickets.
Join the "The Little Sisters of Aksarben" as they raise money to bury sisters who were accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God). Wacky and outrageous with a hysterical anything goes sense of craziness.
Nunsense is playing in the Howard and Rhonda Hawks Mainstage Theatre March 4-April 3, Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday at 2 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Regular priced tickets are $40 for adults and $24 for students. My wife and I went to see this play believing it to be a clean wholesome play. Boy were we wrong. The play was replite with sexual innuendo every ten minutes. I certainly did not expect to see and hear references to nuns performing oral sex on priests nor the foul language used by many of the characters. It was quite evident that the director of the play has used his own license to change the words of the original play as produced in 1985. It truly was a shocking afront to the catholic tradition of nuns. Though I am not catholic I have always held them in the highest esteem. None of the publicity mentioned the things I have mentioned because many people would not have attended. I will certainly not attend another play at the Omaha Community Playhouse unless I know that the content is not objectionable. While there were many enjoyable and funny scenes, they did not need the sexual references to be funny; particularly the video portion showing natives with their groins in the faces of the nuns and references to the penis falling off.
I also learned that non of the money paid for tickets goes to the actresses. They do most of the work and get nothing. Omaha Community Playhouse is not worth supporting financially to me.
Stephen, we're truly sorry you felt that way. We hope you'll give another production a chance in the future.
And yes, all of our actors are volunteers, along with many workers in the Box Office, backstage, in the costume shop, in the administrative office, ushers, etc. That's what makes a community theatre. We're very proud of and grateful for all of our amazing volunteers.
